Internet Solutions, Internet Access or Internet Connections

Using the internet requires connecting to and accessing the internet. The most typical means is using an ISP, Internet Service Provider. However, there are more issues to consider before selecting an ISP.

The internet can be accessed with different devices to obtain different levels of internet service. The different services range in monthly fees as well as the speed in which the internet interaction will take place.

The first and original is through the use of a data/fax modem, typically communicates up to 56K. This type of internet connection is slow and the actual connection speeds vary and never exceed the maximum level possible which is 56K. This connection type is referred to as a "Dial Up Connection". America Online, AT&T, NetZero and PeoplePC are examples of Dial Up ISP's. Anyone with budget needs or intend only to use the internet for emailing functions will typically use this connection type.

Then there is WebTV, an affordable solution for those who may not be computer literate or ever care to be, do not own a computer or simply can't use other service providers. This application turns any TV into an internet terminal using dial up service. When this first hit the market we used it to get family members like Mom, Dad, Grandma and Grandpa online and they loved it. It is very user friendly and has a wireless keyboard that allows you to sit comfortably in the TV room and No Wires!

Then there are the popular DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) connections which offer much higher speeds as well as higher fees. This connection type is commonly referred to as Broadband or Always On. DSL is offered in a variety of way, the most common form is ADSL or Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. Cable and Telephone Communication companies are the most common provider of DSL, like AT&T Yahoo, Time Warner Cable, Charter Communication and SBC Global. However downloading and uploading speeds vary and it should never be assumed that all DSL is the same.

Then there is the ability to create a wireless internet connection. Wireless connections use wireless modems, which reduce the speed of a DSL connection and should only be used when the wireless need out weights the need for speed.
